Angela Thomsen - Head of Finance.
Angela Thomsen was born (with her twin brother, Andrew) and raised in the idyllic seaside town of Santa Barbara, California. After graduating high school, Angela moved up the coastline to study childhood development and psychology at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
Out of school, she became a 1st Grade teacher, but quickly realized that the chaos (in its own beauty) of a classroom filled with 30 kids didn’t quite fulfill her, and she ultimately learned that she thrived in a context where she could nurture one-on-one relationships. At a point of life transitions at the age of 27, here father-in-law, who was in finance, suggested that she consider the trade. While from an outside perspective, it was about as far away career-wise from childhood development and psychology as she could get, and she initially had a healthy dose of skepticism, Angela found that the intimate client relationships she was able to cultivate fed her soul, and the analytical tasks fed other parts of her personality and natural talents.
At the time, her partner was a professional mountain biker; and, as such, the outdoor Mecha of Bend, Oregon up north got on their radar. And, while things ultimately didn’t work out with him, the outdoor splendor and easy way of life of Bend found a place in her heart, and the move was made in the summer of 2017.
Since then, Angela has started her own accounting and finance business, advising a small and select number of businesses, and as she says, her career “has evolved and thrived based on tight relationships”.
Today, Life Design Build and Life Architecture + Planning are lucky enough to have Angela, in collaboration with Dawn Robeson, overseeing the books and advising on financial matters.
In her free time, Angela can be found getting the most of Central Oregon with her two kids, Ben and Evelyn, paddleboarding, rollerbladding, and mountain biking, let alone juggling all the task and kid activities of parenthood. Fun fact: Angela is a compound bow archer. She doesn’t currently hunt, but drawn to the primal intimacy with nature, that’s on her future TO-DO list. You’ll have to ask her about it.
