We all love the climate, sunshine and dramatic seasons in Central Oregon, but gardening and landscaping in Central Oregon can be challenging. The region’s dry climate, short growing season, cold winters, late spring frosts, and sudden temperature changes can damage plants and make it difficult to know when and what to plant. Summer heat, low humidity, and the area’s volcanic, rocky, or sandy soils may require compost, shaded locations, and other amendments, plus supplemental species-specific watering/irrigation to support healthy plant growth.
