Craftsman Modern Kitchen Remodel + Bath Addition
Portland, Oregon.
In 2021 during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, a young couple purchased their first house on the flanks of Portland’s Hollywood neighborhood. Drawn to the house for its it’s location and incredible turn-of-the-century historic craftsmanship, the 1912-built house met nearly all of the couple’s requirements - with the exception that much of the house felt like (or literally) it hadn’t been updated since 1912.
With their first baby on the way, the couple quickly made the decision to tackle some of the home’s much needed improvements, and a few elective items, including 1) a new remodeled Kitchen that would double the functional storage and countertop work space, have an island bar for entertaining guests (or seating future kids), and stylistically marry their modern aesthetic with the historic charm of the house, 2) building a new full bathroom upstairs (the house previously only had 1 bathroom), 3) remodel and finish out two of the existing bedrooms, and 4) remove lead-based paint and overhaul much of the home’s knob-and-tube electrical infrastructure.
In the end, while only touching a few critical spaces, the couple transformed their house into a home ready to accept their growing family.
